POKOTABI / Itcho
一兆
At Itcho, an unpretentious neighborhood Chinese eatery in Sumida's Yahiro district, satisfying choices include chashu wonton noodles packed with shrimp, vegetable-laden tanmen, and bite-sized gyoza.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Generously topped with thick-cut slices of roast pork and plump wontons, the chashu wonton noodle soup is the natural first choice at Itcho. The firmly packed wonton filling is studded with minced shrimp, releasing a fragrant savory sweetness the moment you bite into it. Savoring the hearty meat alongside thin noodles delivers the dependable satisfaction that defines classic Japanese-Chinese neighborhood diners.
For something lighter, the signature tanmen is another mainstay. A clear broth infused with dried dashi stock is loaded with pork, cabbage, bean sprouts, and onions, all pairing naturally with ultra-thin noodles cooked on the tender side. The noodle selection also features thick-gravy Cantonese noodles, fragrant yakisoba, and bean sprout ramen, showcasing the versatile thin noodles across varied preparations.
Bite-sized gyoza with savory, well-seasoned fillings make an ideal companion to the noodle bowls. Rice dishes such as fried rice, chukadon, and tender simmered pork belly sets that pull apart with chopsticks offer plenty of ways to build a meal depending on your appetite.
Seating consists mainly of round tables and booths. Around noon, the room fills with local workers, and sharing a table is common practice. Business hours run from 11:00 to 21:00 with Mondays off, and payment is cash only.
